I hate this programme! And #3 especially! May 5, 2008 V. Carlin (London, England) First of all, this is NOT an educational programme, no matter what parents would like to think. However, I don't really care if programmes are educational because it would be a bit embarrassing if I thought my kid should learn something from watching telly. I am just looking for something that entertains my 18 month old, and for some inexplicable reason, this hits the spot. She doesn't just find it more interesting than other programmes, she is utterly riveted by it, it's the only programme she won't move an inch while watching, and we spend her mealtimes discussing (well, naming in a babyish way) the major villains in the series. Speaking of the villains, I noticed this was the first television she found scary, she used to jump when the baddies came on, but she loves that. I can't explain why she likes it, she knows NOTHING about numbers and can't even identify the characters (ie 3, 4, 5 and 6) despite knowing the names of other CBeebies people, from Josie Jump to Makka Pakka. So yeah, it would be nice if we could fake her intelligence that way, but sadly, that's not going to happen. Still, when I want her completely spellbound by television, this is where I go.
excellent program March 16, 2008 winterkori (London, UK) My boys, aged 2.5 and 4.5, both love the Numberjacks. As the first review says, it does keep the younger one wholesomely entertained while the elder brother starts to notice things like "there are 3 threes in nine!" And yes, it keeps them both out of my hair while cooking their supper! It's clever and unique as well as educational and imaginative.
Very good way to get small children interested in numbers January 23, 2008 Marshall Lord (Whitehaven, UK)
We bought this after having found that both the TV "Numberjacks" programme and the first DVD in this series, "Numberjacks are on their way" were a big hit with my son and daughter, then both aged five. There are a number of other "Numbersjacks" DVDs on the market now such as "Brain Game" and "Standing by to Zoom." Unfortunately the television programme was sometimes scheduled a few minutes before my children have to leave to go to school, so the numberjacks DVDs were an excellent way to give them a chance to see the programmes without being late. My children have watched both the numberjacks DVDs many times. My little boy even offered to get rid of all his other DVDs and videos (of Thomas the Tank Engine, Bob the Builder, etc) and just watch Numberjacks. The antics of the "numberjacks" who are pocket superheroes in the shape of numbers, are designed to keep children entertained while getting them interested in simple arithmetic puzzles, developing their powers of observation, and teaching them to spot patterns. For parents: if you want to get your pre-school or infant school age child to start thinking about how numbers fit together, I can recommend this DVD. If you want to get them out of your hair for 30 minutes so you can tidy up the mess they've made, get a meal ready, or just collapse for half an hour's badly needed rest, I can also recommend it.
