Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is KidVidUK?

KidVidUK is an online store featuring DVDs and toys based on children's programmes as seen on terrestrial UK televison (BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4, and five). The site is partnered with Amazon.co.uk to provide a large selection of items.

2. Who created the site?

KidVidUK was started by Michael Carpenter, a stay-at-home dad. He enjoys buying DVDs for his daughter to watch, and wanted to have an organized site where he could see items for the various characters she was watching on television. Since there was no site like that available, he started his own. The result is KidVidUK.

3. What does 'Partnered with Amazon.co.uk' mean?

KidVidUK takes content from Amazon.co.uk, but organizes it into a form that's easier to follow than having to do it at Amazon's own site. Instead of having to recall what shows your child watches, then do the search, we've done all the work for you.

4. Why not just shop at Amazon directly?

You're certainly free to do so. However, Amazon requires you to actively search through their database for specific items. And sometimes that gives you results you don't want, such as "Noddy Holder" from the group Slade showing up when you search for "Noddy" the well-known animated character. We filter these things out as much as possible, and provide you with a ready-made list of programmes & characters. All you have to do at KidVidUK is simply click on "Noddy" and you're shown the available DVDs, without Mr. Holder.

5. Is shopping on this site safe and secure?

Of course; When you shop, only your selections are stored in an online shopping cart on-site. When you're ready to check out, the contents of the cart are passed along to Amazon.co.uk's secure server. Your sensitive information is never required on KidVidUK's site, so there's no need to worry about your payment details being seen. All of that is encrypted by Amazon by the time you're ready to pay.

6. Why do you only have videos and toys from terrestrial television shows?

Two reasons: One, terrestrial tv reaches a larger audience, since not everyone in the U.K. has cable or satellite. So it's more effective for us to offer product based on what the majority of customers can access in their homes. And two, trying to catalog all those extra shows would be a huge undertaking. The Cartoon Network alone would demand much more time than we've spent so far just doing terrestrial. Plus, many of those shows are American or Canadian; not all DVDs for those shows are available in the UK.

7. Can you get videos or toys from other programmes?

If you're interested in something that's not shown on our DVD or Toy list, try entering it into the Search box at the top of the page. If Amazon carries it, chances are it will show up. For example, if you're interested in the Wiggles, just type Wiggles in the box and hit the "Click To Search" button. You'll then be presented with whatever Wiggles items are available. Note however, that this search is not filtered like the items on our lists. Anything that has "Wiggle" in the title may appear, even if it's not related directly to the group "The Wiggles".

8. Some of the DVDs are listed as "Region 1"; What does that mean?

DVDs are region-coded to whatever area in the world they're meant to be sold in. North America is region 1; The UK & Europe are in region 2. DVDs from one region are not playable in machines in another region. Region 1 DVDs from the United States will not play in most UK DVD players, unless they are specially designed to play multi-region discs. Discs marked "region 0" will play in machines world-wide. Please keep this information in mind when purchasing DVDs at KidVidUK.

9. Will you ever have DVDs from shows seen on cable or satellite?

At this point it's difficult to say; If the demand is strong enough to justify the effort required, it's certainly possible.

10. What about an American version of this site?

A U.S. version of this site is now available here. For now it only features DVDs and toys available on both sides of the Atlantic. Eventually it may expand into shows seen in the U.S. that are not available in the U.K.

11. Do you ship to the United States?

We do not ship to North America. Check with our US site (see question 10, above) for items available to the United States.

12. How does your free shipping work?

You can read the details concerning free shipping here.

13. Who do I contact if I have a question about my order?

If you have any questions regarding shipping, refunds, or any other concerns with a recently placed order, all inquiries should be directed to Amazon.co.uk.

143. How can we contact anyone at KidVidUK?
