It's Tractor Tom Jim, but not as we know it.... February 7, 2008 Mr. R. J. Weir 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
A two year old boy madly into tractors and a series on a farm where the hero is a Red Tractor... surefire hit? Well, for us so far Tractor Tom has been - but not on this collection. We've got 3-4 other Tractor Tom DVDs (Wheezy's Wings, The New Vehicle, Buzz to the Rescue), and on those Tom and his friends can talk - this is what our boy has been used to - not to mention us. When this one arrived and we put it on though, what a difference. The graphics are the same; Farmer Fi and Matt have different voices - we could live with that to a degree - but what's happened to Tom and friends? They can no longer talk, but instead make occasional engine-type noises. This robs them of most of their personality, and confused our son completely - to the extent where we took it off after less than 5 minutes and put one of the other well-loved Tom DVDs on. A quick flick through the episodes later revealed that all have the same thing - mute machines. That's as much play as the disc has had, and it's probably all it will get in our house. The one star review is therefore as much through disappointment as anything. The episodes may have merit on their own, and to fans of Little Red Tractor it may fill a gap - but to us it was a real let-down.
