4 out of 5 stars My son's (4 years old) favorite locomotive. He has 10 of them   July 20, 2007
Manuel Antonio Tocornal B. (Santiago, Chile)
My 4 year old son likes enjoys a lot playing with all the items that we have gotten from Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway from learning curve. This last locomotive, Murdoch is his favorite, not only because it is the last one, he wanted it for a while, but probably because of its character in the movie.

3 out of 5 stars New generation of Learning Curve - Plastic, Plastic, Plastic   October 11, 2006

Murdoch is the most plasticky of the Thomas engines we have bought. His geometry is also poor if you have the older "clickity clack" style of tracks (specifically, he bumps going up ascenders). My son loves his look and he is stylish, but the wheel arrangement (mentioned in numerous other reviews) leaves Murdoch a little stiff for cornering.
So he is a handsome engine, and a little awkward, but this engine has A LOT of plastic. The newer engines just keep getting more and more plastic parts. It seems antithetical to the "wooden railway" ethic to have so much plastic on an engine - even a really useful one.

1 out of 5 stars Too Expensive   January 5, 2006

All Thomas the Train products are overpriced. There are too many companies out there with a better selection of wood train sets for half the price. Choose one of those! Save yourself some money.

5 out of 5 stars We Love Murdoch!   September 11, 2005

What's not to like about Murdoch. He is the strong, silent type, has a unique color (the other reviewer is correct, its sort of butter-scotchy), and he thinks Salty's a hoot!

My son has so many of the Steamies that it's embarrassing, but still when his birthday came it was Murdoch he wanted, and Murdoch he got. Since then Murdoch has been a busy member of the crew and has added countless adventures and fun.

Five Stars. Of course, die cast Murdoch is sturdy and lots of fun. Ours is in the bath as I type this, having a washdown after a busy day in the sandbox.
